FPGA Board Editor

Opens the FPGA Board Editor, which creates and edits XML board description files. A board description combines the board image, the FPGA and clock parameters, and the rectangular regions that describe the board's switches, LEDs, pins, and other I/O resources.

To start a board description, either click the empty board area and choose a PNG board image, use Load board to load an existing XML board description, or use Built-in board to load one of the boards bundled with Logisim-evolution. When a board image is loaded, the board name field is initialized from the file or board name.

Use Configure FPGA to enter the FPGA, clock, and download parameters. To define board I/O resources, drag a rectangle on the board image. After the rectangle is created, Logisim-evolution opens a dialog for selecting and configuring the I/O component type. Defined rectangles may not overlap.

Existing rectangles can be edited by double-clicking them, moved by dragging the highlighted rectangle, and resized by dragging their lower-right resize handle. The zoom slider changes the display scale while editing the board image.

Use Save board to save the board description as an external XML board file. If a built-in board was loaded as a starting point, change the board name before saving it as an external board; otherwise the external board name will conflict with the built-in board.

FPGA Commander

Opens the FPGA Commander for design-rule checking, mapping circuit resources to a selected board, generating HDL and constraints, and running the configured FPGA toolchain. Application-wide FPGA Commander preferences are described in the FPGA Commander Settings tab.
